#BreatheEasier

 Our Focus

Because our mission is to help people breathe easier, it is the goal of CFA to assist individuals and their families in all facets of life. Cystic Fibrosis doesn't affect only those who can afford the disease, it lands where it lands. A family’s medical expenses can reach thousands of dollars every year. Out of pocket medications costs can be over $3000 per month. These expenses can financially devastate families. The Cystic Fibrosis Association (CFA) offers financial support for medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, and funding to improve the quality of life for people with CF and their families.

MEDICATIONS

CFA pays for up to 25% of the uncovered cost of medications. CFA will pay up to 50% of the cost of prescribed or doctor-recommended nutritional or vitamin supplements when not covered by insurance Reimbursements will be made following receipt of a list of medications or explanation of benefits provided by the member’s pharmacy or insurance that indicates the name of the medication, the date, the price, the amount covered by insurance and the patient’s remaining responsibility. All reimbursements made for substances not covered by insurance, (those reimbursed at a 50% rate) must be at the direction, and with evidence of approval by their physician.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT

Reimbursement for fuel transportation-related costs shall be consistent with that of the US General Services Administration (GSA). Mileage shall be calculated by CFA using internet map mileage delineation from the start and end point for the travel. If airline transportation is required for travel, reimbursements shall be made based on the current rate per mile traveled utilizing the same internet map mileage delineations used for automobile travel. Lodging (hotel/motel) will be reimbursed at a rate of up to one-hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per night plus a meal per-diem for a maximum of two nights for travel more than two-hundred and fifty (250) miles one-way. A transportation worksheet (Link to worksheet above)must be completed.

COLLEGE ASSISTANCE

CFA philosophy is to assist young people who suffer from CF in becoming productive members of society.  College students can receive scholarship grants, or in the case of Graduate School, no-interest loans to cover those expenses that otherwise would be earned through work-study or part-time jobs. The rationale behind the scholarship program is to allow enough free time so that students will not have to choose between doing necessary inhalation and chest physiotherapy, and studying.

ORGAN TRANSPLANT FUNDS

There are times when someone with cystic fibrosis has done everything they can to fight the disease and to maintain their relative state of health, and still their lung function has continued to diminish to a point at which lung transplantation must be considered. CFA is there to assist those members at that time. CFA will match up to $30,000 to assist with the costs related to that transplant.

HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE

This is based on individual circumstances.
